Register for the June 1 Virtual Office Hour on Transitioning to the New PDB Beta Archive, Extended PDB IDs, and PDBx/mmCIFOn July 21, 2027: new 4-character PDB IDs (e.g. 1abc) will no longer be issued by the wwPDB.
After that date,
- New entries will be assigned only extended PDB IDs, e.g., pdb_1000abc
- These entries will only be available in PDBx/mmCIF format and will have a new DOI syntax
- The PDB archive will be re-organized based on extended PDB IDs (including file names and directories)
Several resources are available to help users transition, including
- Shortlinks/URLs that currently point to data in the new archive format that avoid the need to understand file system layout
- Documentation that highlights upcoming changes, including the new DOI syntax for entries that only have the extended PDB ID
