UniProtKB description: Member of the two-component regulatory system WalK/WalR that regulates genes involved in cell wall metabolism (By similarity). Binds to the promoter region of the transcription factor fabT gene in the fabTH-acp operon in vitro (By similarity). Inhibits transcription of fabT, probably acting in an unphosphorylated form, thereby playing a role in the regulation of fatty acid biosynthesis (By similarity). Essential for normal growth in vitro (PubMed:12379689). Required for maintaining normal cellular morphology, acting, at least in part, by regulating peptidoglycan hydrolase pcsB (PubMed:14651645). Involved in maintaining expression of WalRK regulon genes in exponentially growing cells (By similarity).
