UniProtKB description: Plays a role in the inhibition of global transcription by interacting with the RNA polymerase (RNAP) clamp, locking it in a fixed position and inhibiting the formation and/or stability of the pre-initiation complex (PIC) (PubMed:27882920). Also overlaps with the transcription factor B binding site; overall RIP probably interferes with DNA loading onto RNAP but does not displace DNA once it is loaded (PubMed:34535646). May play a role in virus particle assembly, possibly by dissociating active RNAP from the virus genome (Probable).
