UniProtKB description:  Acetyltransferase involved in the biosynthesis of the phosphonate antibiotic FR-900098, a potent antimalarial agent that acts as an inhibitor of 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate reductoisomerase (DXR), the first enzyme in the nonmevalonate pathway for isoprenoid biosynthesis (PubMed:20142041). Catalyzes the N-acetylation of CMP-5'-(N-hydroxy-3-aminopropyl)phosphonate (CMP-5'-H3APn), leading to the formation of CMP-5'-(N-acetyl-N-hydroxy-3-aminopropyl)phosphonate (CMP-5'-FR-900098) (PubMed:20142041, PubMed:21865168). In vitro, can also catalyze the acetylation of CMP-5'-3-aminopropylphosphonate (CMP-5'-3APn), leading to the formation of CMP-5'-N-acetyl-3-aminopropylphosphonate (CMP-5'-Ac3APn), which is a dead-end in the FR-900098 biosynthetic pathway rather than a true intermediate (PubMed:20142041, PubMed:21865168). Can use the alternative CoA substrates propionyl-CoA, malonyl-CoA and acetoacetyl-CoA, with much lower efficiency (PubMed:21865168).
