UniProtKB description:  Serine protease ot the inner core, which is activated by autocatalytic cleavage after completion of prohead assembly and processes many prohead proteins (PubMed:12371). These cleaved peptides from the inner core and the auto-cleaved protease escape from the capsid, thus liberating space for the phage DNA genome (Probable). Cleaves the prohead proteins after the sequence motif L/I-X-E (PubMed:27667692, PubMed:35458430).
