UniProtKB description:  Stimulates decapping of both stable and unstable mRNA during mRNA decay. Stimulates decapping presumably by preventing the DCP1-DCP2 decapping complex from adopting an inactive conformation (PubMed:22085934). Together with pdc1, acts as a scaffolding protein sufficient for the phase transition of the components of the 5' to 3' mRNA degradation machinery to form P-bodies. Intermolecular interactions between the edc3 Sm domain and at least 10 helical leucine-rich motifs in dcp2 and pdc1 build the core of the interaction network of this spontaneous clustering process (PubMed:24862735).
