UniProtKB description:  Oxidoreductase involved in the synthesis of 2,3-diamino-2,3-dideoxy-D-glucopyranose (GlcN3N), which is a component of lipid A in some species (PubMed:15044494). Catalyzes the NAD(+)-dependent oxidation of the glucosamine 3-position of UDP-N-acetyl-glucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc) to a ketone moiety, forming UDP-2-acetamido-3-dehydro-2-deoxy-alpha-D-glucopyranose (UDP-3-oxo-GlcNAc) (PubMed:15044494, PubMed:33200610). Is specific for UDP-GlcNAc, no activity is observed with UDP-glucose (UDP-Glc), UDP-glucoronic acid (UDP-GlcA), UDP-galactose (UDP-Gal) and UDP-N-acetylgalactosamine (UDP-GalNAc) (PubMed:33200610). Cannot use FAD(+) and NADP(+) (PubMed:15044494, PubMed:33200610).
