This family is found primarily in bacterial surface antigens, normally as variable number repeats at the N-terminus. The C-terminus of these proteins is normally represented by Pfam:PF01103. The alignment centres on a -GY- or -GF- motif. Some members of this family are found in the mitochondria. It is predicted to have a mixed alpha/beta secondary structure.
The POTRA domain (for polypeptide-transport-associated domain) is found towards the N-terminus of ShlB family proteins (Pfam:PF03865). ShlB is important in the secretion and activation of the haemolysin ShlA. It has been postulated that the POTRA dom ...
The POTRA domain (for polypeptide-transport-associated domain) is found towards the N-terminus of ShlB family proteins (Pfam:PF03865). ShlB is important in the secretion and activation of the haemolysin ShlA. It has been postulated that the POTRA domain has a chaperone-like function over ShlA; it may fold back into the C-terminal beta-barrel channel [1].
