Of particular interest is the stereoselective hydrolysis of DL-beta-acetylthioisobutyrate acid (DL-MATI) to D-beta-acetylthioisobutyric acid (DAT). This is because DAT is an important intermediate in the synthesis of the medicinally important angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.
