TrmD catalyses the S-adenosyl-methionine(AdoMet) dependent It methlyation of guanosine(G) to N1-methylguanine (1-methylguanosine (m1G)) at position 37 of tRNAs that read CUN (leucine), CCN(proline), and CGG (arginine) codons.
